The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. This one-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.
This qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements. It is also endorsed by CIMSPA and the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum.Â
Course Prerequisites
Candidates must be a minimum of 16-years-old at the time of taking the assessment and attend 100% of the course. No prior first aid knowledge is required. Employers should consider the following when selecting individuals to attend this training:
Reliability, disposition and communication skills;
Aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and learn new skills;
Ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures;
Normal duties are such that they may be left to go immediately and rapidly to an emergency
Course Content
During the Emergency First Aid at Work course you will learn about:
Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider;
How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally;
How to manage a casualty who is in shock;
How to assess an incident;
How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking;
How to manage a casualty with a minor injury;
How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally;
How to manage a casualty with external bleeding
The course comprises practical work, theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

Please be aware that attending the Emergency First Aid at Work course does not guarantee you a qualification; this will be dependant on the performance and the abilities of the candidate. In order to successfully pass the qualification, the candidate must attend all course hours, be able to demonstrate first aid knowledge and successfully pass the final practical assessment. Upon successful completion, the HSE recommends that first aiders undertake annual refresher training.
